Cup Holder LED’s

Using the Auto LED methods from the previous page I install a couple of Green LED’s above the Cup Holders in my ZX3.

Here are the tools I used for this mod. The volt meter isn’t necessary, I used it to find the “hot” side of the fuse block. It turns out the lower slot of each fuse is the “hot” side.
I used the needle nose pliers to pull out fuse #57. This one goes to the left side marker lights, a good one to use so your LEDs only come on when your lights are on.

Use a plastic putty knife to pry the radio bezel off, starting in the middle on the passenger side work your way around the bottom then pull the top out using both hands, so you don’t scratch the paint.

Pick your location and drill a couple of holes to fit the LED’s you plan on using. Size the holes so the LED’s just push in.
You could hot melt glue them in if the holes end up are a little oversized.

Solder your negative wire onto each LED and solder a small 1/8th watt resistor, 480 to 510 ohms onto the positive lead, the long one of each LED Cover each joint with shrink-tube. Route the wires through the holes you drilled.

Pull fuse #57 and put it into the lower slot on the Add-A-Circuit fuse holder. Put the 3 amp fuse that came with the Add-A-Circuit into the upper slot. Plug the Add-A-Circuit into fuse slot #57. Rout your wire over to
the LED wires and crimp the female
“Bullet” terminal onto the wire from the fuse
holder and the male “Bullet” terminal onto
the positive wires from the LED’s.

Plug the “Bullet” terminals together and tie
them onto the wire bundle as shown in the
photos.

Crimp a “Spade” lug onto the negative wires
form the LEDs and ground them to the lower
bolt that mounts the radio.

You don’t have to remove the lower steering
column cover, I did for photographic proposes.
Although it is easer to tie up your wiring.

Now your new cup holder LEDs will come on
when you turn on the lights. Cup Holder LED’s
